RUMBLE IN THE CHUNGLE

It was late last week that I was pleasantly surprised to find Alexa Chung's go to style icon guide of a book had graced its presence on Australian book shelves.  That afternoon I devoured the entire read and have gone back to read it several more times.  

I have to confess I am  a bit of a die hard Chung fan. After all, she is one of the fashion industries current 'it' girls and rightfully so.  If only we could all be as cool as her, life would be a whole lot easier.    It's the mix of effortlessly chic style, quirky personality and maybe just general lankiness that makes her such an icon.  Agree or disagree, get your head into Alexa Chung's recently released book, It, NOW!!!

SPRING STEP

It is the time to rejuvenate the wardrobe and a Spring clean at its best.

TO BE COOL 

I am not certain why my sneakers/joggers/sandshoes - however you like to distinguish - collection has come to overwhelm my wardrobes bounty of shoes, but all I know is that it has done so in a vengeance, and there is no turning back.  For sure high heels have taken a step back in precedence, yet my hoard of runners has not stemmed from the discomfort of the podiatry hell that is a heel, but rather the downplaying and coolasizing of any outfit. NB: strictly not to be worn with athletic clothing.  Ironically, however, New Balance sneakers are simply disgorged from the high-fashion world. Nike may have a small place in the heart of fashion street style, but unfortunately I can't see Anna or Karl rocking them anytime soon.  

Maybe I am attempting the resurrection of my pre-pubescent years where bounding around in sneakers made life care free and simple. Undeniably, however, they can't take a place as being 'cool' then, so how is the generic 'sneakers' cool now?  Perhaps my pitiful blind attempt at being hip. I hate the word.  

But, in summation, I'm thankfully not attempting to be a tween skater, but rather when I tie the knot on a pair of sneakers, paired with a pencil skirt, slouchy or otherwise jeans, I finally feel the 'effortlessly cool' that I envy in so many others.  So ladies, bring on the sneakers!

STREET SMART

Despite the full fire force of NYFW's Spring runways, it is just as much about what is on the street. And so far, so good.  It has been a domination of slouchy distressed denim, long line blazers, cropped tops, playful florals and spring prints, fluid midi skirts and Anna Wintour with a smile, say what? 

Here are a few of my stand outs from the first few days of Spring NYFW.

GEORGIAALICE

I am a huge supporter of New Zealand designers, probably some of my favourites are brewed there and  it is no exception for new kid on the block, Georgia Currie.  Her label Georgia Alice has been my new discovery of the week and I am absolutely fanatical about it.  It is an embodiment of all things 'it'.  She perfectly finds the balance of soft silhouettes vs. swift strong sturdiness.  This is definitely one to keep a close eye on to become one of the big front runners!!

STEAMY

This week....

It is Versace punk, or as Donatella christened it 'vunk'. A throw back to the 1990s where Kate and Naomi ruled, so fittingly an exploration into the utterly mind-walloping photographic archives of Mario Testino.  It is the beauty of receiving a hand written letter in the mail. A wardrobe filling up with sheer and clear, a bit of plastic accessorising without the nose job. In a world where we are constantly dressing 'up' to impress, it is now dressing it 'down', going androgynous and pulling femininity back. But then 'down' to your lingerie and a white shirt, think Calvin Klein Underwear naturals and Acne crisp white.    It is deep lipstick on an otherwise blank canvas.  With Spring approaching it is smelling of honey scents and buying a one way ticket.
